Name: Zephyr Caelestis
Age: Eighteen
Race: Genome
Gender: Male
Home World: Spira (long story)
Elemental usage: Primary: Air/Wind
Secondary: Light
Class: Warrior
Sub Class: Thief
Weapons: Knives, fists/feet, staves, staffblades, a nearby table-leg if he's gotta
Fighting style: Hit it until it either breaks or gets better. There is no problem that cannot be solved by hitting something repeatedly with a weapon. He tends to favor brute force and speed over magic whenever he can get away with it. And boy, does this kid have speed.
Good Qualities: He's a genuinely good guy at heart, a true heart-of-gold even if he hides it with a trickster's glint in his eye. He's not generally known for subtlety, except when he's trying to steal something, but it usually doesn't get in his way for getting what he wants. He's got one hell of a romantic streak, believing wholeheartedly in the Power of Love to Overcome All. Interestingly enough, he doesn't draw any boundaries when it comes to love, freely flirting on both sides of the spectrum. With women he will gladly play the gallant hero, the protector and the initiator of romance, the dedicated suitor. With males he actually prefers to be the one approached and wooed. Although he's perfectly willing to adapt his technique to the preferences of the object of his (current) affections.
He is loyal, though, with a devotion that is painful in its sheer intensity. His friends are his friends forever and the only thing which can, in his mind, rival the strength of True Love is the Power of Friendship. His idealism knows no bounds, to the point that he'd even make Do-Gooders like Superman would shake their heads and say there's something wrong with the boy.
He is physically adept with high ability in Strength, Agility, and better than average Defense. He's also fast. And hyperactive to boot at times. He has a wellspring of energy in his soul that makes some people stagger in disbelief at how he can keep RUNNING after all the stuff he does.
Bad Qualities: His earnest nature tends to get on the nerves of some people, notably those who lack a fundamental appreciation for all the humor in life. And he really doesn't tend to observe boundaries such as those created by existing relationships. He will flirt with ANYONE he takes an interest in, whether he really means it or not, and whether that person is available or not. His idealism and his naοve outlook on life pretty much means that he can be completely rooked by someone he trusts, no matter how badly bungled the deception.
He is not that skilled with true Magic because he doesn't tend to depend on it enough to gain any real skill. His Magic Defense is also relatively low. Both are to be expected because he is a Martial-style fighter, trained in melee more than true magic.
Affinities: Neutral-Good, genuinely good-hearted, but there's a trickster tendency that kinda means the rules get bent and outright shattered on occasion.
Appearance: Like all Genomes, he's got blond hair and blue eyes and a long, very prehensile tail extending from the seat of his pants. The tail is strong enough to hold him, much like a monkey could manage, and sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own
He's grown his hair out so that it hangs down his back to his shoulderblades and he usually has it tied back at the nape of his neck to keep it out of his way.
History: Genomes are not truly born, they are crafted. Grown in canisters deep within the bowels of fallen Terra or, more recently, on the world of Gaia where they relocated following the destruction of Terra by none other than Kuja, one of their own. A brother of sorts.
Zephyr was, in the beginning, like any other soulless Genome. He learned; he walked; he spoke, but he could not have been said to have any sort of individual identity of his own. He never felt the lack of such an identity. He didn't understand how someone WOULD feel that lack.
He never intended to leave the Black Mage Village and the other Genomes
but he wasn't given much of a choice. There was an accident involving a barrel-crate and instructions that didn't include, "Stop if there's actually some ONE inside the crate", and he found himself packed up and shipped offworld completely by no will of his own.
But Zephyr was a patient Genome, he didn't have much choice in the matter. He was a Genome. Eventually the crate was opened and he found himself on a world called "Spira", in a city called "Bevelle", and that was where his whole world turned upside down and inside out.
Spira still has problems with entities called "Unsent", souls so tied to life that they refuse to go on to the peace that is in store for them after they have fallen that they continue to exist on the plane of the living. Genomes are made to house Souls, which is why they have none of their own. It was only a matter of time before one of these "Unsent" ran into Zephyr.
As luck would have it, the particular Unsent was a VERY idealistic and noble young man who had died far too young trying to protect his friends from Sin. He didn't want to leave his friends behind, even though they had gone on to the Farplane, and he wanted only to protect Spira. Zephyr was an empty vessel and the two coming together
was something of an inevitability.
Zephyr found himself suddenly infused with all the emotion and drive that he had been lacking all his years and for a time the change was enough to make his head spin. He became entranced with all the pleasures that life had to offer; the food, the laughter, the
well, let's say that he indulged enough for THREE people.
But the soul that inhabited him was still that of a VERY idealistic young man and so the Genome couldn't be kept away from the knowledge that there was more to life than simply enjoying all the pleasures that there were to enjoy. He needed to offer his service and devotion to a purpose, and that purpose found him when the High Summoner accepted the position of joint leadership over New Yevon and the Youth League.
Zephyr knew that Lady Yuna was in need of warriors to serve her, warriors who had no other loyalty and who would serve her willingly in whatever ventures she had need of them.
The fact that she was a FETCHINGLY attractive young woman certainly helped. The presence of her Dream of the Fayth made Real did nothing to dissuade him. (Goodness knows he enjoys watching Tidus as much as he enjoys watching Yuna.) So he found the High Summoner and offered her his service
and much to her surprise, she accepted.
Now he travels, enjoying everything that life has to offer and occasionally riding off to save the worlds in the service of the High Summoner and her friends.
