Name: Isaac Yuusha Wakeman
Age: 16
Race: Hume
Gender: Male
Home World: Spira
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Appearance: Isaac is of average height, but with a very sleek, lean build. He's pale, and wears a high ponytail, very Samurai-esque. He's got several small scars on his lower lip, due to biting it, often directly through, as well as a very prominent scar on his back, extending from his left shoulderblade all the way to his right buttock. His eyes are a dull green-brown. His outfit consists of ratty black hooded cloaks, baggy black pants, and canvas shoes. He's rarely seen without his signature black and red canvas bag. He's got terribly chewed fingernails, a'la biting.
Class: Samurai
SubClass: Musician
Elements:
Mastered: Non-Elemental
Secondary: Water
Tertiary: Earth
Fighting Style: Isaac's style is fast and brutal. He'll improvise any weapon, and is very skilled with his trusty katana and naginata.
Affinities: (Good?)
Good Qualities: Creative, fast, and strong. He's a great weapon improvisor, and has a crazy-high reaction time.
Bad Qualities: He's a truly terrible judge of character, and easily manipulated by the baddies. Oh, and he takes an extra x.20% damage from female characters, with a 20% chance of a Critical. (Assuming he'll even fight with a girl... See "Wouldn't Hit A Girl")
Personality: Isaac is really not good with people. He doesn't so much hate, or fear them, he's just clueless about how to successfully interact with them. He's got a soft spot for girls, and has abesolutely no tolerance for chocobo-defacate of any kind. He was raised by a Marxist, and taught that either you're the best, or you are a parasite, and deserve to be killed, and while Isaac's kinda shaken that mentality, he still strives to be the best at essentially anything he does. When he can shake his people problem, he's a pretty nice guy, and once he's made a friend, he'll defend them right to his very last breath. In battle, he'll taunt his foes relentlessly... ...to varying degrees of success. ("You cocky cock!") One of the few times he can get past his social awkwardness is in combat, making him challenge people he'd like to befriend to sparring matches, or full-on duels.
Appearance: (This... was at the top of the... what?)
History: Isaac's story starts some distant years before his birth, with his father, Ivan Wakeman. Ivan was a renound samurai, bound to the aristocrat Yaoichi Nodai by the unbreakable bonds of friendship and brotherhood.
Yaoichi's family had found the half-starved boy in a ditch, covered by a fine layer of dirt and much. They adopted him into their family, and Yaoichi's father Tauru took a special liking to him. He was strong, feared nothing, and showed a great many other traits of a warrior. His own son, Yaoichi, was far more interested in painting and writing than the ways of the blade, making Tauru seriously contemplate disowning him. Yaoichi was aware of this, but simply didn't care. He and Ivan remained good friends despite this. Ivan himself was a quiet boy, who really just went along wherever the current pushed him.
Tauru decided, upon Ivan's approximate 12th birthday, to send him in place of Yaoichi for training with the Kendo master, Aiyochimori Akaidoku. Aiyochimori was infamous for his training techniques. He would push the human body to it's feasable limits (see "Charles Atlas Superpower") then push some more. He was unbearably strict. If you showed pain during his training, he would whip you until you couldn't muster the will to scream in pain. But one thing was sure. Nobility sent their sons to Aiyochimori. They left as boys, and they came back noble warriors.
Aiyochimori ground Ivan into the ground (Incredibly Lame Pun). His days were filled with grueling instructions in the spear, bow, and most importantly, katana. His nights were filled with study, and if he was fortunate, sleep. The already shy Ivan became increasingly withdrawn. After six long years of pain, physically and mentally, Ivan was deemed a samurai, and given the enchanted katana Shainingu Gitou and the naginata Kurokiba.
He returned home, to find that Tauru had died in a duel. Yaoichi was declared the man of the home. Once again with his friend and brother, Ivan managed to start feeling better. Since Yaoichi had a knack for finding trouble, such as going on a panty raid in a shrine maiden dormitory... Ivan usually ended up having to bail his sorry a-... erm, butt, out of trouble. As they got older, and Yaoichi became more involved in politics, Ivan's role went from beating up whoever Yaoichi'd offended and apologizing on his behalf to challenging whoever Yaoichi wanted dead... and killing them. Just like that.
Ivan didn't really think about this until it was called to his attention by Yokomi, Yaoichi's mother. She said that her son was bordering on a complete monster at this point, and that she was genuinely worried for him. Ivan tried to reassure her, insisting that his friend, his brother was no monster. Misguided, yeah. Morally ambiguous? Maybe... But he was a good time. Yokomi was both pleased and preturbed by her surrogate son's faith and loyalty to his brother. The issue wasn't brought up again.
Yaoichi was gaining influence and power throughout Spira. Too many were afraid of the "Silent Demon", Ivan to oppose him politically. He didn't have magic, or summons. But he had the only power that ever mattered. Sheer force of willpower and determination. If you got in a fistfight with him, and he lost? He'd come back with a knife. If you beat him in a knifefight? He'd come back with a sword. And if you beat him in a swordfight, you'd best kill him. He won't stop until he's finished the job.
Yaoichi, infamous for his promiscuous sexual attitude, often tried to 'set his brother up'. Ivan didn't approve. He didn't really see the point in women. All the same, to appease his brother, he married Youbou Meian, a distant cousin of Yaoichi's. She was a nice girl, who'd admired Ivan from a distance since his adoption into the Nodai family. The two had a son, who they named Isaac Yuusha Wakeman. Not that long after, Yokomi took ill and died.
Ivan and Yaoichi, now two very famous Spirans, held a public funeral, to which they both attended. In the middle of his speech, Yaoichi was mudered by an assassin hired by the Haworth family, Yaoichi's primary chew toy. Unable to process the loss of two of the people he loved in such rapid succession, Ivan grabbed the assassin by the throat, smashed him against a nearby wall, and pounded his face until it was nothing but randomly-arranged skull fragments beneath a meaty paste, getting stabbed in the side repeadedly as a result. Wounded in body, mind, and spirit, Ivan returned home to his wife and infant son, sunk into an alcoholic stupor, and didn't come out of it until Isaac was six.
He noticed his son had very little interest in swordplay, or fighting in general. Blaming his mother, he divorced Meian, and told her that if she ever so much as spoke to his son again, he'd remove her tongue personally. Isaac took the loss of his mother very hard, having nightmares and developing serious trust issues. His father punished these 'weaknesses', smacking him across the ear if he ever complained or cried.
Isaac's training began at the age of seven, when Ivan decided he was strong enough to hold a sword. His father forced him to go through trials so rigorous, Aiyochimori would have winced. If he screwed up, he'd be thrashed until he could hardly stand, and be forced to do it again. His father noted, with great resentment, his son's below-average intelligence. He often berated Isaac for this reason, amongst other things.
At the age of fourteen, Isaac finally stood up to his father. He picked up Kurokiba, and leveled it at Ivan.
"What're you going to do with that, little shit?" Ivan taunted, drawining Shainingu Gaintu.
"Exactly what you told me! Strike down a parasite!" Ivan, now in considerably worse shape than he'd been two decades ago, was surprised by his son's considerable strength. Isaac managed to land some hard hits, breaking Ivan's ribs into his heart and lungs. Laughing, and caughing blood, the old man grabbed Isaac's wrist breaking it, forced him around, kicked him hard in the small of the back, then rushed forward, bringing Shainingu Gaintu down hard across his son's back.
Isaac lost consciousness around then. By the time he recovered, his father was collapsed, dead. The youth picked up Shainingu Gaintu and Kurokiba, then walked thirty miles, bleeding profusely and broken-wristed, in the general direction of the nearest town, before collapsing and loosing consciousness once more.
He was discovered by two young orphans, Lina and Fia, who carried him to a nearby White Mage, Rozalin. Isaac woke up three days later, confused and amazed to be not-dead. Lina explained they'd found him passed out in the woods near the outskirts of town, and carried him to Rozalin's place. Isaac was unused to such hospitality, and having killed Ivan before his course in manners, had no idea what to say.
Fia offered him some new clothes, as his old training robes were tattered and bloody. He accepted them, still mute. Lina laughed.
"You aren't too talkative, huh?Three months later, the now Cute Mute Isaac had developed a small sense of security in his new identity. Lina and Fia were incredibly nice to him, and Rozalin took him in as a surrogate mother. He'd become
incredibly protective of his new family. If anyone so much as looked at them funny, he'd reduce them to a bloody stain on the ground. Lina and Fia liked this. As orphans, they were pretty used to people looking down on them. Isaac made people think twice about doing something like that.
Eventually, the team grew up. Lina and Fia decided that Isaac was strong enough to make it on his own, and they kicked him out. He's since been wandering Spira, brooding.
