Chapter One: Arrival

“Ok, I’ll be telling you this only once: I don’t want any Windarian to be causing trouble, either to me or to my companion. ¿Understood?”

Said the man that was now trapped in a completely unknown place with only a man from the enemy world as a companion. It seemed that he did not want to accept that the whole situation was in part his fault.

“But seriously, where the heck are we?”

Above their heads was a starry and dark sky. But upon closer look, the two young men would notice that those were not stars, but something resembling crystal shards, not many meters far from them. And blow their feet was a simple platform made of stone, floating in the air as if it was something natural, connected to several others by a natural stone bridge.

“Only a fool opens a book not knowing how to read…”

The Windarian’s poetical response irritated the “fool man”, who decided to say nothing in order to save himself from being verbally crushed by his eccentric companion.

“You must have been informed, Misterian, by your chief, of the place where this quest would take place…”

The Windarian walked some steps and reached the border of the platform. He looked down, and curious, the Misterian joined him. What he saw made his jaw end up wide open: A vast space of pure darkness, illuminated by the same shiny crystals that floated in the air. Blue and white portals, with unknown matter spinning around them, like an orbit decided beforehand. And, even at a lower level, more and more platforms, some as tiny as a flower and some as big as an island. Like theirs, they had minerals and transparent stones everywhere, and even some other things that they could not recognize.
Now that the Misterian noticed, those platforms were everywhere. He was utterly amazed at the sight.

“This is the Interdimensional Rift.” Explained the Windarian. “We are now in a dimension between all worlds that exists, where the rules of time and space does not apply. Here, remnants of forgotten lands gather, things that were thought to be lost are found and powers of incredible potential lies dormant… Weren’t you explained any of this?”

“Sorry, I think I was sleeping during the speech…”

“…”

“Well, sorry, but the chief is just too boring. His voice is old… I thought I was going to be left up in a coma or something.”

Ignoring his words, the Windarian went and crossed the first stone bridge.

“Hey, wait!”

The Misterian caught up soon, angry for being left behind.

“But I’ll repeat: Don’t cause any trouble. I don’t like Windarians and that’ll never change. Especially weak looking Windarians like you. Have you even been on the battlefield before?”

“No. Wars have nothing to do with me.”

“You see? I might not have much discipline, but I have battle and survival experience, something that you lack. That, in this kind of situation, is the most essential thing. As a representative of Misteria and soldier under the direct command of the Great Prince Makenshi, I’ll be the one to command this
group, understood?”

“…”

“Left you speechless?”

“Makenshi is just a coward.”

The Misterian stopped his movement at the third stone platform, which was larger than the other two.

“What did you say?! He is one of the strongest swordsmen of the kingdom and our future king. The pride of our world! Don’t dare to speak ill of him!”

“That doesn’t change the fact that he is a coward…”

Without even having a drop of self control, the Misterian stood in front of the Windarian and quickly drew his sword, placing it at the other man’s throat, ready to cut it at the slightest movement.

“I won’t tolerate any kind of insolence against our precious prince.”

But the Windarian didn’t even change his calm, emotionless face. It was as if he ignored the presence of the weapon that was touching his skin.

“Then why didn’t he come?”

“He is too busy trying to defend the Path of Earth that YOUR army is attacking. If that fortress falls, then we’ll be at disadvantage. We couldn’t let that happen, so the prince decided to stay and sent his most trusted warriors into this quest.”

“And maybe all of that is a simple excuse, and he is enjoying life at his palace.”

“Our prince is not like that. Is not like your noble scum.”

For the first time since they arrived, the Windarian looked directly at the eyes of the Misterian. Those eyes that showed no emotion intimidated the soldier.

“Please don’t mix me with the nobility. And it’s not my army the one attacking the Path of Earth. I don’t belong to that army. I’m not a soldier. I’m not even considered worth of being one. I’m just a man that was born with a certain power, a power that has made me recognized as someone special since my very childhood. But, as I said before, war is none of my business. Of course I’ll fight if my hometown, family or friends are attacked, but that’s all.”

It was the Misterian the one that was left speechless. After some seconds of intense silence, he put the sword down. He lost all intention to kill the Windarian.

“Ok, fine, but don’t ever call the prince like that again, ok? At least not in my presence. And that story doesn’t change the fact that you are a weak Windarian. And I hate weak Windarians.”

This time it was him the one that kept on walking. Though he was not sure where to go, he thought that if he kept going forward, they would reach their destination, but who knew how much would that take.

“One more thing.”

The Windarian caught up with the Misterian, who was not exactly in the best of the moods.

“You said you were going to take command of this group.”

“Yeah, so?”

“This group was initially made of four individuals, two Windarians and two Misterians. Yet now it is only the two of us.”

“Yeah, so we got to search for the other two before continuing.”

“I didn’t want to reach that point yet. I just wanted to warn you that if you say that out of the blue to my companion, he won’t doubt before beheading you in an instant.”

And with those words, the Windarian took the lead. Seeing that the path ended, he jumped into a platform that was some meters below and the Misterian, not taking much into consideration the words of the Windarian, imitated the act and fell near him.

“Time does not flow here. We can take as long as we want.”

“Yeah… I don’t know you, but this place gives me the creeps. I want to leave as soon as possible
with the Twin Mist Swords in my hands. I won’t be able to face the prince again if I don’t do so.”

The Windarian didn’t reply. He focused on crossing the next bridge, that was about to fall down. Time may not pass, but the structure still weakened itself, maybe thanks to some ancient battle.

For half an hour the environment didn’t change. They kept walking forward, finding new paths, leaving the older ones behind, trying to decide their direction… But for some reason they didn’t reach anyplace. It was as if they hadn’t moved at all.

“Where the hell are we? I seriously don’t want to be lost. I’m worried about her…”

“We are lost.” Said the Windarian. “And don’t worry about the female dragoon. She is able to protect herself.”

“That’s not what worries me… Wait, what? We are lost?!”

“Yes. We are since the very moment we took a step inside the Rift.”

“I can’t believe it! How are we supposed to find the Twin Mist Swords and the Demon Gun if we don’t even know where they are?”

“We came knowing too well that risk.”

“Seriously?”

“Seriously…”

“No way…”

“Yes way…”

“Really?”

“Really… And stop talking, I hear something…”

Just as the Windarian said, something was heard at the distance. At first, it sounded like two rocks hitting themselves, the eco reaching their ears. As far as they knew, it could be kilometers away. But then they heard something else: It was clearly the howl of a wolf-like beast.

“A monster?”

They heard more howls. It sounded like a pack of wolves, ready to attack their prey. Whatever it was, both the Windarian and the Misterian thought that it was better to avoid it. The thing that they least wanted was to have a fight against creatures from a whole different dimension. And though the Misterian was confident in his fighting ability, he was still uncertain. After all, the animals there could have powers that they have never seen in their whole lives. Yes, the best thing was to avoid combat…

And just when they were going to turn back…

A shout was heard. It was the shout of a young girl. It caught the attention of both the Windarian and the Misterian.

“Yuki*!”

The Misterian recognized the voice and started running to the scene. The Windarian, ready for the worst, followed his companion.

They crossed some bridges, the jumped at different platforms, following the sounds of the howls. Soon, not only the howls were clearly heard, but also the clash of metal against their teeth and bodies being hit. In other words, there was a struggle for survival taking place near their location.

“There!”

The Windarian looked at where the Misterian was pointing at: Below their platform, in a larger island, around twenty wolves like creatures were surrounding two human-like forms. The wolves, though thin and small, had a black skin with spiky dark hair around it, which mixed with the size of their claws, the form of their heads and the blood on their teeth, made them quite the scary monsters.

The other two were easy to recognize: First a tall man with an axe on his hand, having long black hair on top of his head and wearing red clothing and armor all around his body. His face seemed serious, as if he was trying to think a strategy to get himself out of there.

The other person was a beautiful woman wearing what at first sight seemed to be a dress, a disguise to the tactical armor that was behind it. Her white long hair fell to her waist. She looked just like a lady from Victorian times. His left hand wielded a spear, while his right arm hanged from her shoulder, bleeding thanks to a bite that she received early.

“Yuki!” Shouted again the Misterian.

They both looked up and noticed the Windarian and the Misterian. Though relieved, they couldn’t take their eyes off the enemy, which was ready to attack and eat their flesh at any second.

“We got to help them!”

The Misterian, a young man with white hair and blue clothes, covered too with some light blue armor,
reached the border of the platform. He was ready to jump at any second. He was decided to help his Misterian companion, Yuki.

“Are you coming?”

Those last words were said at the Windarian, who simply looked at the scene with his cold eyes, something unbelievable for the Misterian. Wasn’t his companion down there? Didn’t he want to rescue him?

“We need all the help possible, even if given by a weakling like you.”

The Windarian did not reply.

“C’mon, Kuroi* Kaze*!”

He remained in silence for a split of second. Then, slowly, Kaze nodded with the head. Briefly smiling, the Misterian didn’t think twice before jumping into the battle.

“He is not a Koori* at all…”

And with those words, Kaze jumped out of the border, following the actions of Koori, that in mid air had already prepared his sword and was ready to fight.
