Name: Raogrimm
Age: Impossible to guess. The "base" of his current body was a boy no older than 12, though Raogrimm's soul is much older than that. He appears as he was when he died, the first time, ~40, young, for a Galka.
Race: Galka
Gender: Male
Home World: Vana'Diel
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Appearance: Raogrimm is massive, even by Galkan standards. He towers head and shoulders above most Galka, which puts him squarely into the 7 foot range. Like all Galka, he is positively bristling with muscle, a veritable mountain of flesh. Like most Galka, he has very dark, tanned skin. Unlike most Galka, however, he makes the effort to shave off his facial hair every day, a troublesome task, considering how hairy most Galka are. A wide, handsome face, topped with spiky brown hair, and an easy-going grin, with wise, crinkled brown eyes set deep into his face make him very handsome, by Galka standards. He is, when not in armor, usually wearing a brown hunter's outfit, with soft boots, for sneaking through the underbrush. Strapped to his back at all times is a massive curved Greatsword. His massive size does nothing to detract from his grace, however. With soft, unassuming grace, Raogrimm can move silently across the floor, even in full armor.
Class: Dark Knight
SubClass: Chaos Mage
Elements:
Mastered: Shadow
Secondary: Metal
Personality: Raogrimm's personality often flips between two extremes: At times, he is completely his old self, a calm, cool-headed warrior; gentle, kind, and honorable. The way he was before his death, and subsequent resurrection. At other times, he reverts to the way he acted during his time as a Shade: filled with a dark rage, vicious, cruel, and filled with hate. Raogrimm suffers quite often from depression and self-hatred, blaming himself for his death, and the death of his loved one. His conscious half that holds his old personality has sealed off all of his memories of the time he served as the Shadow Lord, essentially giving him MPD (Multiple Personality Disorder). There is no known catalyst for this change: something small, seemingly insignificant, can send him spiraling into a dark rage.
Fighting Style: Raogrimm is an extraordinarily gifted combatant, wielding steel and magic as if they were a part of his own body. He fights with efficiency firsthand in his mind, and takes very few chances. Using quick, powerful slashes, combined with a few debilitating/offensive spells, Raogrimm prefers to whittle down his opponent's health, whilst keeping himself safe. During one of his personality swaps, though, his style changes drastically: He becomes brutal, swinging with seeming abandon, trying to cut down the opponent with a frenzy of blows.
Affinities: Raogrimm is extraordinarily strong and tough, even by Galka standards. He stands head and shoulders over most other Galka, and positively LOOMS over smaller humanoids. He is, despite his size, relatively quick and agile, the result of training in heavy armor since a young age. He is also very adept at magic, augmenting his own abilities and debilitating his enemies.
Bad Qualities: Raogrimm suffers from frequent bouts of confusion, as his twin personalities fight over control of his body. He is, as with all Galka, related deeply with the Earth, and, as such, are actually very vulnerable to it, taking and additional 25% damage from all Earth-based attacks.
History: Raogrimm was, at the time of his death, the Galkan Talekeeper, the protector of Galkan racial memories. He, along with two Humes, Ulrich and Cornelia, were sent on an expedition to investigate several various civilizations. The three set off through the Northlands, to investigate the Beastmen. Ulrich and Raogrimm began arguing over what to do, at this point: Raogrimm advocated peace between the nations of Vana'Diel and the Beastmen, whilst Ulrich wanted to simply exterminate them. Ulrich was also jealous of the unassuming Galka; Ulrich was a famous swordsman, at the time, but he had proven to be no match for the Galkan Talekeeper. This, combined with the fact that Cornelia and Raogrimm, at this time, began to fall in love with one another. Unable to control his jealousy any longer, Ulrich attempted to kill Raogrimm, by stabbing him through the chest. Cornelia stepped in the way, and was ran through. Ulrich fled, leaving Raogrimm clutching the body of his dead loved one, and roaring with grief. Unable to find his way back, or perhaps simply unwilling, Raogrimm died, there in the Northlands. Ulrich hid the details of the fates of his travelling companions, and made his way home.
Twenty years before the Age of Adventurers, a terrifying demon emerged from Xarcabard. The nameless demon united all of the beastmen races of the North, and began a campaign of terror now known as the Crystal War. At the end of the war, a group of powerful warriors banded together, and took down the demon, who came to be known as the Shadow Lord.
Or so they thought.
Twenty years later, the dark spirit of the Shadow Lord, animated by sheer hatred, began to stir again. The beastmen began to act, attempting to find a way to resurrect their beloved leader. In the end, they succeeded, although their efforts were in vain. Veterans of the Crystal War, alongside a young adventurer, were there the moment he was resurrected, and defeated him, yet again. However, though the veterans had lost their lives in the battle, and the young adventurer knelt there in the dust and blood, exhausted, something strange happened. An unknown force stripped away th darkness that covered Raogrimm's soul, allowing him to explain his past to the adventurer, and stating that now, perhaps, he could rest in peace.
Sadly, he was wrong. A dark sorcerer, going by the name Rahl, heard about Raogrimm, and his period of time as the Shadow Lord. Rahl decided to try to resurrect the Galka, yet again, and bind him as a servant. Using profane, cursed magics, Rahl used a young boy, enraptured by the cruel sorcerer, as a vessel. Burying up to his neck in sand, and drawing symbols around him, Rahl began the ritual. After getting the boy to pledge his very life to him, Rahl placed a feeding tube into boy's mouth, and poured molten gold down his throat. As he died, Rahl started the chant, using the boy's recently-departed soul as a guide, to find, and bring back, Raogrimm. However, he failed to recognize that Raogrimm and the Shadow Lord were two separate entities, ans bound both to the still-fresh corpse. The earth around the body melded itself to the boy, and alchemized itself into a new body, one that would be a perfect match for Raogrimm's original. The dark entity that had overtaken his spirit once before, the erstwhile Shadow Lord, took control at the start, and literally tore the hapless Sorcerer limb from limb. Now Raogrimm wanders the world, yet again, with fragmented memories, and no purpose. Perhaps, in one of these new worlds outside of Vana'Diel, he can find something to fight for?
